| On September 11, 2001 an unimaginable
tragedy occurred in the United States. We at Creased, Inc. (based
in New York City) felt so helpless just watching the events unfold on
television and from afar that we decided to go out to the missing
person's central unit in New York City and pass out paper crane pins to
send the message of peace and hope.
The cranes were made from 3 inch squares of Washi
origami paper and each had a safety pin attached as well as a message
explaining the significance of the paper crane and its history.
Standing in front of a wall of posters and flyers of
pictures of people still missing in the wreckage, we passed out the pins
to anyone passing by. In a matter of hours hundreds of free crane
pins were passed out to family members and loved ones of the victims
lost in the World Trade Center incident. Many took more than one
to give to their friends and other family members.
Some of our friends and customers sent in paper cranes
to help in our efforts to pass out more pins to spread the message of
peace.
We are in the process of creating a flag of the United
States made out of red, white, and blue paper cranes. This
flag will be donated to the city of New York to honor the fallen heroes who
gave their lives to save others, the rescue workers and doctors who
never gave up hope, the family members and loved ones of the victims,
and most importantly to everyone who lost their lives because of this
cowardly act of terrorism. The flag should be completed by
September 11, 2002. If you are interested in contributing
cranes for this effort please click here for more information. |
